Michelle Chaisson
Meet Michelle Chaisson! For Michelle, becoming a CASA volunteer was something she had thought about for a long time. She first learned about CASA through her childhood friend, Carey Redmond, who has been a CASA volunteer for many years. Carey often shared how rewarding her experience was, and Michelle always knew it was something she wanted to do someday.
When her own children got older and their schedules began to slow down, Michelle realized the time was right. She completed her CASA training in September 2025 and was sworn in that November.
Since then, Michelle has served on two cases. Her first case involved a one-year-old child and closed this summer. In June, she and her aunt took on a new case involving four children, giving Michelle the opportunity to serve alongside someone close to her.
Michelle has worked in education for the past 25 years and has been an assistant principal for five years. Her experience in education has become a valuable part of her CASA work. She visits the children at least once a month and is able to use her professional background to better understand their educational needs, including their grades, behavior, academic deficits and testing scores.
When preparing for court, Michelle reviews the DCFS case plan and other information provided to CASA. She also relies on her case notes and information gathered through her visits when preparing her court reports. Being a CASA volunteer for Michelle is about building relationships, connecting children with resources, and bringing joy and hope to children who may not otherwise have someone in their corner.
When asked what advice she would give someone considering becoming a CASA volunteer, her answer was simple: “Just do it!” Her CASA experience has also allowed her to reconnect with old friends, make new ones, and see firsthand the high regard our local court system has for CASA volunteers and the important role they play.
Michelle is a lifelong Houma resident and has been married to her husband, Bryan, for nearly 25 years. Together, they have two sons, Bryce, 21, and Reece, 17, along with Bentley, their sweet but very yappy dog. Family time often revolves around baseball, especially with Reece entering his senior year. Outside of work and CASA, Michelle enjoys reading and recently started shopping for vintage décor. And one fun fact about this lifelong Cajun? She doesn't eat seafood! When asked about her greatest accomplishment, Michelle didn't hesitate, “Being a mom.” She feels blessed to have two smart, kind and hardworking boys.
Michelle has spent much of her life caring for and investing in others through her family and career in education. Today, she is bringing that same heart and experience to her role as a CASA volunteer.
