Katherine Porche
Meet Katherine Porche. Katie serving as a CASA volunteer has become one of the most meaningful ways she gives back to her community. Encouraged by a friend who serves as a judge overseeing DCFS cases, Katie became a CASA a little over two years ago and has since completed two cases involving four children. While monthly visits are required, Katie often sees her children weekly depending on their needs. She believes every child deserves to feel heard and understood, and she carefully reflects on each child’s feelings and experiences when preparing for court. Her goal is to be a voice for children who may otherwise go unheard.
One of Katie’s most memorable experiences as a CASA came while helping a child transition into a new foster placement. She made sure she was there to welcome the child, help unpack belongings, answer questions, and provide comfort during an overwhelming moment. To Katie, simply being a familiar and supportive presence made all the difference.
Born and raised in Houma, Katie graduated from Terrebonne High School before moving to New Orleans, where her love for the city still remains strong. She and her husband, Allen Porche Jr., have been married for 17 years and share a blended family that includes stepdaughters Ashley and Grace, twin sons Miles and Maddox, and grandson Brooks. They also carry the memory of their son Owen, who passed away at six weeks old from Epidermolysis Bullosa.
Katie spent more than 20 years working as a registered nurse before retiring in 2022 after Hurricane Ida. Outside of CASA, she enjoys CrossFit, reading, traveling, Jiu Jitsu, and attending Ultimate Fighting Championship events with her husband, including UFC 229: Khabib vs. McGregor in Las Vegas.
Katie’s advice to new CASA volunteers is to remember that while not everyone may welcome a CASA’s involvement, the focus should always remain on the child. Through compassion, consistency, and advocacy, she hopes to continue making children feel supported and valued during difficult times.
