Who We Are

Meet a CASA

Elizabeth Stevens

Elizabeth Stevens

Meet Advocate Elizabeth Stevens. Elizabeth was born in Houma, Louisiana, and raised on the bayou in Theriot, though most people know it as Bayou DuLarge. She’s been married for nearly 10 years to Mike Stevens, Jr. They have two boys, Seth and Lane. Their family also includes their dog, Emma, and two "grand dogs," Bruno and Tank. Elizabeth works full-time as a certified medical coder. When she’s not working or volunteering, she enjoys traveling, beach trips, shopping, and spending time with friends and family. She also attends a women’s Bible study group on Sunday evenings, which she describes as a weekly source of joy and fellowship.
Elizabeth joined CASA in August 2024 as part of the self proclaimed “The Dream Class,” the first training led by her trainer, Anna. She was inspired to become a CASA after years of advocating for her own children (in education and other areas of their life) and wanting to use her voice to help others.
In less than a year, Elizabeth has advocated for eight children across three cases! Her first case involved four young boys and was a team effort with her longtime friend, Karen.
Her typical CASA duties include monthly child visits, attending school and special events, celebrating birthdays and holidays, speaking with foster and biological parents, and working closely with her CASA supervisor, Eddie, and DCFS caseworkers. She carefully documents everything, stays up to date with each child’s needs, and prepares detailed observations and recommendations for court reports.
Elizabeth’s most meaningful CASA moment so far? Seeing the four boys from her first case reunified with their father; a full circle moment that brought tears and a powerful sense of purpose!
Her advice for anyone considering becoming a CASA, “It might seem intimidating, but it’s one of the most rewarding and humbling things you can do. These kids just need someone in their corner. I wish I had started sooner. And we especially need more male advocates!”
In fact, her husband Mike was so inspired by her journey that he joined the very next CASA training class. Elizabeth hopes they’ll one day work a case together and continue making a difference as a team!
Elizabeth closes with this heartfelt reflection: “Being a CASA has changed my heart and perspective. I’m thankful for the CASA community and the impact we get to make, one child at a time.”
