Who We Are

Meet a CASA

Charles Brown

Charles Brown

Charles J. Brown’s deep commitment to service was further strengthened when he became involved with CASA of Terrebonne.  For the past 13 years, he has served on the Board of Directors, focusing on fundraising and raising awareness about the challenges faced by foster children in Terrebonne Parish.

Born and raised in Schriever, Louisiana, Charles has been married for 53 years to his beloved wife, Carolyn Brown.  Together, they have three children, six grandchildren, and a pet turtle.  Now retired for 13 years, he spends his days gardening, cooking, and performing with his gospel group for the New Rising Sun Souls special.

As a board member, Charles plays a critical role.  “My duties focus on raising funds and bringing awareness to the needs of foster children in our community,” he explains.  His proudest achievement during his tenure has been increasing awareness of CASA of Terrebonne’s mission and the importance of advocacy for children in the foster care system.  To him, caring for these vulnerable children is a noble cause, which requires commitment, compassion, and heart.

Charles’ involvement with CASA of Terrebonne extends beyond his board duties.  Over the past decade, he and Carolyn have opened their home to five foster children, deepening his understanding of CASA’s mission.  He approaches this work with his “whole mind, body, and soul.”

Encouraging others to become advocates, Charles advises, “Approach your work cautiously, with the right intentions, and a caring heart.  Put the children first, it’s a noble and rewarding cause.”

Reflecting on his journey, Charles fondly recalls his time as a track star at South Down High School.  He credits his athleticism and determination in his youth for helping him achieve success in life.  His story is a testament to the power of perseverance and the impact one person can have on their community.
