Ann Robichaux
For nearly a year, Ann Robichaux and her husband, George, have served as CASA volunteers, helping ensure children in foster care have a voice and someone looking out for their best interests. After learning about CASA through friends who were advocates and a presentation George attended, the couple decided to volunteer together and are currently advocating for two children on one case.
As CASA volunteers, Ann and George stay in regular contact with the parties involved in their case, visit the children at least monthly, review court documents, and prepare reports for court hearings. To stay informed, they carefully review case information, discuss developments together, and update reports with the latest information. For Ann, the most rewarding part of the experience is seeing the children flourish, experience the joys of childhood, and develop a sense of safety and security.
While she admits the role can sometimes feel intimidating, Ann credits CASA's leadership, staff, and volunteers for creating a supportive environment. Her advice to anyone considering becoming an advocate is simple: "If you enjoy working with children and are committed to personal growth and trying to do your part to make a difference, CASA needs your help. Sign up for training!"
A lifelong Houma resident, Ann has spent much of her life serving others. Before retiring, she taught elementary and middle school math and science at St. Bernadette Catholic School for thirteen years and high school science at Vandebilt Catholic High School for ten years.
Ann remains actively involved throughout the community. She serves on the Terrebonne Parish Library Board, the V Foundation of South Louisiana Board, and the board of Le Petit Theatre de Terrebonne. She is also the Region 3 Representative for the Louisiana Science Teachers Association and volunteers at Maria Immacolata Church as a commentator, Children's Church teacher, and member of the Environment Committee.
Ann and George will celebrate their 37th wedding anniversary in August. Together they have three daughters: Laura, who lives in Tauranga, New Zealand, with her husband James; Colleen, who lives in Davis, California, with her husband Brian; and Mary, who lives in Riverside, California. While they do not have grandchildren, they proudly enjoy one grand dog and two grand cats.
When she's not volunteering, Ann enjoys reading, gardening, traveling, tackling New York Times puzzles, and playing Mahjong.
Whether in the classroom, the community, or the courtroom, Ann's commitment to helping others has remained constant. Through her work as a CASA volunteer, she continues to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children and families throughout our community.
