CASA Tutoring

Details and Requirements:

  • TUTORS

    • Tutors must be current (or retired) public or private school teachers who are tutoring the subject and general grade level in which they are (or were) certified.

      • The certification requirement can be waived for private school teachers with 5 or more years of teaching experience.

      • Other considerations will be made on a case by case basis.

    • Tutors will be reimbursed at a rate of $35/hour.

      • Either DCFS caseworker, the CASA volunteer, or the foster parent will need to sign the tutor’s time sheet certifying that the tutoring occurred and that the time was used productively.

      • Timesheets must be submitted by the tutor to the CASA office and checks will be issued within one week of receiving the timesheet. A current W-9 form must be on file before any payments are issued.

    • CASAs can provide a list of approved tutors and their contact information to the foster family upon request.

    • CASA cannot assist with transportation or supervision.

      • If tutoring happens outside of the home, the foster parent will need to coordinate with the DCFS caseworker if help with transportation is required.

      • If tutoring happens inside the home, supervision is the responsibility of the foster family and/or DCFS.

      • The timing and location of the tutoring sessions will be at the discretion of the foster family and/or DCFS.

      • CASA is not liable for any issues that may arise from or within tutoring sessions.

    • Foster families are not eligible to be paid as tutors.
