CASA Tutoring
Details and Requirements:
TUTORS
Tutors must be current (or retired) public or private school teachers who are tutoring the subject and general grade level in which they are (or were) certified.
The certification requirement can be waived for private school teachers with 5 or more years of teaching experience.
Other considerations will be made on a case by case basis.
Tutors will be reimbursed at a rate of $35/hour.
Either DCFS caseworker, the CASA volunteer, or the foster parent will need to sign the tutor’s time sheet certifying that the tutoring occurred and that the time was used productively.
Timesheets must be submitted by the tutor to the CASA office and checks will be issued within one week of receiving the timesheet. A current W-9 form must be on file before any payments are issued.
CASAs can provide a list of approved tutors and their contact information to the foster family upon request.
CASA cannot assist with transportation or supervision.
If tutoring happens outside of the home, the foster parent will need to coordinate with the DCFS caseworker if help with transportation is required.
If tutoring happens inside the home, supervision is the responsibility of the foster family and/or DCFS.
The timing and location of the tutoring sessions will be at the discretion of the foster family and/or DCFS.
CASA is not liable for any issues that may arise from or within tutoring sessions.
Foster families are not eligible to be paid as tutors.
