VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION BANQUET 2009
On December 3, 2008 , the stars were out to welcome CASA volunteers, families and friends to the 7th annual Volunteer Recognition Banquet. Excitement was in the air as guest filled into Ellendale Country Club to reunite with old friends and enjoy a delicious meal prepared by Flanagan's On the Green.
The guest speaker this year was Mrs. Valerie Manns, an English teacher from Vanderbilt Catholic High School. Her and her husband David are adoptive parents of one of our CASA children. Mathew was adopted this year.
Mathew came into care as an infant desperately needing love and nurturing. he is now a happy, healthy and very active four year old boy with parents who thank God for him everyday! Mrs. Christy Moss was his CASA volunteer every step of the way and with her dedication and commitment to Mathew - he has continued to thrive and exceed all expectations.
The angel of the year award is given each year to someone in the community who has been there our children during their hardship. This year the award went to Jane Williams, Assistant District Attorney for Terrebonne Parish. Jane's role in the courtroom is to represent the state, but you'd never know that by her dedication to them. These children are not just a docket number to Jane, she knows they are heartbroken, scared and confused just like our own children would be. Thanks so much to Jane Williams from CASA and our CASA children.
The volunteer of the year was awarded to a well deserving man, father, grandfather, husband and a very dedicated volunteer for CASA. Mr. Merkle "Skip" Kornegay is the advocate of the year for CASA of Terrebonne for 2008. Thank you Skip for all you do. Your CASA children are truly blessed to have you on their side.
The second volunteer of the Year award (for Lafourche Parish) was awarded to Mona Hotchkiss. She is the first volunteer of the year for Lafourche Parish and what a way to start, Good job , Mona!
Jeri Thompson, Office Manager, works all year planning to make this a special night for all the volunteers who dedicate an endless amount of time, love, and sometimes heartache fighting for our CASA children. This night is a great way for volunteers to be reminded that we are all in this together, that the hard work and dedication does make a difference not only to CASA but to the life of a child. Thanks Jeri for all your hard work on the banquet every year- we couldn't do it without you!
